Talakadu

Talakadu is situated on the banks of River Kaveri. The river bank is surrounded by desert like sands. Talakadu is 45km from Mysore and 133km from Bengaluru. Talakad is known as Panchalinga kshetra as there are 5 Shiva temples are there. They are Pataleshvara, Maruleshwara, Arkeshwara, Vaidyanatheshwara and Mallikarjuna temples. Another important Vishnu temple is Kirthi Narayana Temple.

Talakadu is one of the important pilgrimage centres of karnataka. It is also an important historic places of karnataka. It was ruled the Ganga dynasty. It was the capital of Ganga kings. It was also called Davalana-pura.  In the 11th century Gangas succumbed to the Cholas. They captured Talakad and gave it the name Rajarajapura. Hundred years later it was taken by the Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana.  He drove Cholas out of the Karnataka.
